Religion Trumps Healthcare in Illinois | Queer Landia

In Illinois, you better come up with a plan C. An Illinois Circuit Judge just ruled that pharmacists with religious objections can refuse to dispense the “morning after” pill called Plan B.

For those of you wondering what this has to do with the LGBT community, this is a horrible precedent of religion taking precedence over the safety and health of Americans. The anti-gay religious conservatives won’t stop here. Which drugs will they target next?

Imagine if these pharmacists decide that providing HIV/AIDS drugs is against their religion. What are people going to do if there is only one or two pharmacies in a 50 mile radius? Continue reading

Should We Vote to Repeal Prop 8? | Queer Landia

Equality California is thinking about putting gay marriage on the ballot again in 2012. With the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that gay marriages cannot take place during the Prop 8 trial, Equality California thinks it might be faster to send the issue to the voters again. A lot has changed in the last few years, so we might be able to overturn Prop 8 at the Polls.

The current hold up with Prop 8 right now is the issue of whether or not the backers of Prop 8 have a legal right to defend the law. The California Supreme Court is going to review this issue, but not until this fall. If the Court decides that the organizations backing Prop 8 do have legal standing, the case will go back to the Ninth Circuit court. This will inevitably cause yet another delay for months.

What do you think? Should we put the issue in front of voters again? Should we wait for the courts? Personally, I am concerned that putting this on the ballot for 2012 will cause the courts to delay their work to see what happens at the polls. They could decide that having the voters repeal this law would make the case irrelevant, which would delay everything even more if we get the same results at the polls.

Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. You can also go here and tell Equality California what you think.

Sara Ramirez: Zander Does a Girl!

I received from feedback recently that my blog was very singularly focused. When I pointed out the blogs name (back to me), I received a deadpan look. I was confused that a reader of my blog would want to see the posts shift from me (heavens forbid) to something about someone else.

But then I thought about it. There is more to me than politics, gayness and really, really hot men with very little clothing on. I do enjoy television shows and movies that have plots outside of men being shirtless and I do enjoy watching some actresses. With that thought in mind, I bring you the first (and hopefully not the last) in the series of Zander Does a Girl.

I picked Sara Ramirez for my first post because she keeps me drawn to Grey’s Anatomy every week. Also, the most recent episode (yes, the musical one) was outstanding in some regards. Sara Ramirez has an extraordinary voice. She is a beautiful woman that exudes positive energy, happiness, sadness and victory, and she does this simply by her facial expressions. As cheesy as the Grey’s Anatomy Music Event was, Sara was the high points. Her voice, her looks, her emotions, her very essence drew people into the episode. I really wish she would have sang the entire “Chasing Cars”. I would have bought the song and put it on repeat for hours on end.

But I digress. Here are some photos of Sara that I found online. I hope you enjoy the pictures and check out Sara Ramirez on Grey’s Anatomy.

Apple to Buy HP?

Did you happen to notice that the iPhone 5 was pushed back until this fall? I noticed and I did some digging. What I found was beyond shocking, but first, here is some of the back story.

When Palm was sinking, Apple was one of the companies trying to buy the company out in order to get webOS. HP was either more determined or they had more money. Either way, HP won out, but that appears to have only been a small battle in a bigger war.

According to my sources, Apple is in talks to buy HP. Not webOS, the whole freaking company. That is how badly Apple wants webOS. Because of this, Apple is working to make iOS apps run natively on webOS, which is no small task.

Now for the bigger news. The iPhone 5 is being delayed in order to finalize the transition. The new iPhone will run webOS, not iOS. The new integration will officially be called iOS 5, but essentially it will be webOS 3.

Apple will also be announcing the new iPad 3 this fall, which will have the missing specs that people expected on the iPad 2. Apple scaled back on the iPad 2 in order to leave room for the introduction of the new iPad, which will also be running webOS (iOS 5).

After all this shocking news, along with AT&T buying TMobile, I wonder if the new devices are finally going to land on Sprint.

(note: this was just an April Fool’s Joke, but wouldn’t this be grand?)
