Bad Starbucks: No pot pie for you!

After months of waiting, Starbucks has brought back the Pumpkin Spice flavor. I was so excited the first few times that I didn’t even look at the cost or my receipt. Today was different. Today I noticed that the Iced Venti Pumpkin Spice Latte costs $4.65. The Iced Venti Vanilla Latte only costs $4.00. To make matters worse, Gold Members are supposed to get free flavor shots, which brings the vanilla version down to $3.60. Starbucks isn’t giving it’s gold members a discount on the Pumpkin Spice.

What’s the difference between the Pumpkin Spice Iced Latte and the Vanilla Iced Latte? The flavored syrup. What does Starbucks promise Gold Members they don’t have to pay for? The flavored syrup (and soy milk).

I am furious at Starbucks for pulling this crap. They just ruined my favorite season of the year: Pumpkin Spice Season.

It’s why they have the seasonal flavors – they make way higher margins.

Consider this: A hot chocolate with an extra shot is basically a mocha with vanilla syrup but costs less.

Also: peppermint is a syrup that’s available year round but they feature it during Winter and then jack the price up an extra 40 cents.

I fully understand and agree with their decision to charge more for the seasonal flavors, but that doesn’t excuse their decision not to honor the agreement with the gold card members. I would be willing to pay the extra $0.65 that they see fit to charge for the seasonal drink. However, gold card members pay $1.05 more than a regular latte. We are getting hit with almost twice the increase that the average Starbucks customer is paying. I still think they should give us the $0.40 discount. It may not seem like much, but that is $2 a week.
